In 2008, the Bentín family arrived in the desolate Pampa California desert in Pisco, Peru, to cultivate asparagus and pomegranates. By 2010, they began experimenting with blueberries, eventually establishing Family Farms Peru, a major blueberry producer. Initially facing challenges due to the region's unique conditions, they persevered, developing innovative techniques and achieving good commercial production by 2016. A key turning point was the 2019 partnership with Family Tree Farms, granting access to Mountain Blue Orchards' premium blueberry varieties like Eureka. This collaboration led to significant expansion, with over 600 hectares dedicated to Eureka and its newer iterations, including Eureka Gold. Family Farms Peru now utilizes specialized pruning methods and leverages the region's favorable climate and water resources to produce high-quality blueberries for export, primarily to the US.
