Agreement Reached for the Export of Peruvian Blueberries to the Bolivian Market
Feb 25, 2025Falling Asparagus Prices Affect Agricultural Exports
Peruvian fresh asparagus exports reached 9,600 tons in January 2025, a 28% increase in volume compared to January 2024. However, the export value dropped by 9% to US$34.3 million due to a 29% decrease in the average price per kilogram, which fell to US$3.57. High temperatures impacted the quality and quantity of asparagus, affecting the average price. Logistical challenges since October, including shipping delays and cold chain disruptions, further contributed to the price drop in key markets. The United States remained the primary destination for Peruvian asparagus, importing 6,644 tons, but experienced an 8% reduction in value due to a 30% lower average price. Spain, the second largest market, saw a 24% decrease in export value despite a 12% volume growth. The United Kingdom's imports increased significantly, but the average price still declined. European markets like Belgium and Germany reduced their purchases, potentially reflecting concerns about product quality.
